After grasping some basic motorcycle riding skills, such as balancing the bike, accelerating, and braking, you can graduate to more advanced skills. The more experience you gain on your motorcycle, the more places you will be able to go. These skills are essential if you want to stay safe while riding. If you want some more riding tips, you can come to RC Hill Honda. Our dealership, located in Deland, Florida, happily serves customers from Palm Coast and Deltona, Florida.

Taking Sharp Turns

When taking a sharp turn in a tight space, aim for a 90-degree angle. Look up and move to where you want to go, keeping the motorcycle in a straight line towards that direction. While taking this type of turn, try to extend your elbow away from your body to avoid cramping. After completing the turn, release the accelerator and reposition your grip on the bike before continuing down the road.

Riding at a Moderate Speed

While driving through city traffic, you will have to learn how to move at a moderate speed. Moderate speeds are also best for long-distance travel because you increase your fuel efficiency if you do not push the engine speed too much. Some tips for riding at moderate speeds include using the motorcycle clutch in high-friction areas and avoiding the front brake. Use the rear brake instead to give yourself more stability on the motorcycle.

Counter Steering

Counter steering involves looking for a spot ahead of your motorcycle and pushing around the curve as you approach it. You will be accelerating in a straight line before you head into this curve on your motorcycle.

Quick Stops

There are times when you will have to make an emergency stop while traveling at high speeds. To avoid crashing your motorcycle during a quick stop, you should practice this skill in a safe area. Accelerate a bit, then apply both brakes at the same time. Your body will come forward forcefully. Tighten your grip on the motorcycle and prepare yourself before a quick stop.

Avoid Panicking

Scanning the road ahead is a great habit to develop when motorcycle riding. It is not uncommon for motorcycle riders to panic if they encounter something unexpected. Stay vigilant so that you can avoid hazards, such as construction zones, cars turning up ahead, and more. Do not let yourself panic and press the brakes without preparation.
